Berkhamsted is a market town with buildings of all periods. There are also the ruins of a Norman castle where William 1 received the offer of the English crown in 1066. Berkhamsted lies on the western edge of Hertfordshire, bordering the Chiltern Hills. Over much of the last millennium it was an important market town with strong royal and literary connections.

Leighton Buzzard is a picturesque market town with 17 and 18th century half timbered houses in the streets acround the Market Cross which has stood for over 600 years in the centre of the town. There is a steam railway in the town ,offering an 85-minute round trip from Page's Park to Stonehenge Works, Whipsnade Zoo and safari park are located at Whipsnade, near Dunstable, its a sprawling, 600-acre home to more than 2500 animals, with tours, adventure play areas

Milton Keynes has a lot to offer , it is one of the major shopping areas around this area, and is great for the more adventurous where you can toboggan on real snow, and where you can go indoor sky-diving.

Little Venice is home to quirky waterside cafes, cosy pubs, and charming restaurants and boasts some of the most interesting independant theatre venues in London .

 

Directions to Winkwell Dock

By Road : Take the A41 towards Aylesbury from junction 20 of the M25. After approximately five miles take the exit for the A4251, signposted to Bourne End. Winkwell lane, which leads to the boatyard, is on the right just past the petrol station. Cross over the canal bridge and the boatyard entrance is on the right, immediately after the row of cottages. (If you get to the overflow car park for the Three Horseshoes then you have gone too far)

By Rail : Hemel Hempstead is the nearest station where a taxi can be taken to the boatyard.

By Air : Heathrow or Gatwick airports
